Steve Jobs Reborn As 12-Inch Tall Action Figure

Action Man, Captain Scarlet, Superman, He-Man... Growing up, there's a fair chance that you owned a variety of super-powered, feature-laden, articulating action figures of your favourite superheroes and supervillains. What you probably didn't have was a brilliantly lifelike plastic replica of an influential businessman. Kids growing up in 2012 might just get that chance.

The Steve Jobs figurine stands 12-inches tall and depicts the former chief executive of Apple in his accustomed black turtleneck, blue jeans and John Lennon glasses. Brought to us by InIcons, the figure is available from February for around $100. Accessories – an iPhone 4, a Mac computer – are all scaled to the proportions of the figure, but are sold separately.

This isn't the first time Steve Jobs' likeness has made its way to plastic form however. Online retailer MIC Gadget was due to send out its own batch of Jobs figurines before a court case was sent its way, in which Apple ordered the company to pull their production. Lawyers stated at the time that:

Unauthorised use of a person's name and/or likeness constitutes a violation of California Civil Code Section 3344, which prohibits the use of any person's name, photograph or likeness in a product without that person's prior consent.

It's therefore highly unlikely this particular set of Steve Jobs-alikes will make it to market, that is if InIcons doesn't have the permission to produce the figures from Jobs' estate. Does the predominately-featured Apple logo on accessories suggest the manufacturer has the rights? Or has InIcons taken one step too far in trying to make a quick buck? Apple's lawyers might be just around the corner...
