Huawei Announces New Honor 6X Smartphone at CES 2017
Huawei just announced the next phone in their Honor line-up - the 6X - sporting an updated version dual-camera system they introduced five years ago, a decently low price and a fairly run-of-the-mill "me too" design attitude.
This 5.5-inch Full HD smartphone is just 8.2mm thick and sports a sand-blasted metallic body that - in the potentially poetically creepy words of company boss George Zhao - is "smooth like a baby's skin."
The 2.5D curved glass curves into the body too, feeling like a premium all-in-one construction.
The real upgrades come when you look under the hood. The mantra of the entire conference was "double or nothing," and they've stuck true to that with some big specs that essentially double the performance over their last model:
- 3/4GB Ram depending on the model chosen and country availability
- 32/64GB memory - expandable with Micro SD
- Kirin 655 Octa-core 64-bit processor - with four high-speed cores at 2.1Ghz and the second set at a low-power 1.7Ghz
- 3340mAh battery - capable of 11.5 hours of video, 70 hours music and 8 hours gaming. No stats released on call/data use time
A key focus, of course, is the camera - consisting of two 6-element lenses, one of which is 12mp and the other being 2mp. This allows for the focus point of a picture to be adjusted post-capture, which is pretty nifty in practice. The sensor, from Sony, is capable of focussing on a subject in just 0.3 seconds.
Not just this, but with an 8mp front-facing camera - completed by a 77-degree wide angle - you've got some good capturing hardware, paired with noise-reducing software for better low-light photography.
