Texan assaults his wife for not liking his Facebook update

A 36-year-old man from Texas has pleaded not guilty to battery charges after being accused of beating his wife for failing to “Like” a status update he posted to Facebook.

Benito Apolinar had updated his Facebook about the anniversary of his mother’s death. Angry that the post had no response from his wife, he confronted her after dropping off their kids at her home in Carlsbad, New Mexico, on Tuesday.

“That’s amazing everyone ‘Likes’ my status but you, you’re my wife. You should be the first one to ‘Like’ my status,” the accused allegedly told her before punching her in the face. Other sources say he was intoxicated at the time.

There is definitely going to be more under the story to cause such a reaction; but for someone's single action on Facebook to be the catalyst of a violent attack, it's another of those situations where people take the social constructs of Facebook too far.  The trial begins on 22nd December.
