45 Years Of The Mobile Phone - Learn Something Episode 30

This week marks the 45th anniversary of the first ever mobile phone call. For the 30th episode of Learn Something, it’s only fair we document the sometimes weird history of the mobile and see what the future holds for this essential tech…

From the 22cm, 1.1kg Motorola DynaTac 8000x with 20 minute talk-time in 1973, to the advent of the iPhone in 2007, the mobile phone has evolved quickly from a simple communication device into a pocket-sized computer in a mere few decades.

This begs the question… What does the future hold for mobile phones? The nice folks over at giffgaff interviewed many of the industry’s leading experts at Mobile World Congress, including people from Sony and Samsung, to weigh in with their predictions. Watch the full thing below!

SPOILER ALERT: 5G and eSIMs are the future, but as a nerd, you probably already had a good idea of that.
