Amazing Spider-Man official website goes live. More info revealed

Columbia Pictures and Marvel Entertainment have revealed a generous amount of tantalising, juicy information about the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, with the launch of the film's official website.

Featuring several character bios and some tasty new images, the most intriguing avenue of the site's official launch is that we now have a complete plot synopsis – and it's not quite what you'd expect. In fact, The Amazing Spider-Man appears to be side-stepping the beats left by Sam Raimi's recent trilogy quite nicely, with an origin story that seemingly goes deeper into Peter Parker's relationship with his parents. Peter's bio details how “he has struggled to find his purpose in life ever since [his] parents disappeared 13 years ago”. The full synopsis goes as follows:

Like most teenagers his age, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret that his father held… a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man. This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story. On July 3rd, 2012, the untold story begins.

What we can also take from this is the studios' intentions to spawn a whole new franchise from the rebooted property - “first in a series of movies” - that, while unsurprising, shows the confidence they have in what is shaping up to be one of 2012's biggest films. A The Dark Knight Rises beater? It'd be futile to pick a winner.
