LG Reveals World's Largest OLED TV At Just 4mm Thick

We're quite the keen observers of advances in TV technology here at NRM. From heavy investment in the 3D market and glasses-free 3D, to ever larger, smarter, thinner and more energy efficient sets. LG Electronics has revealed that it is planning to unveil the “world's largest” OLED TV at this year's Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, beginning January 10.

The display comes in at an impressive 55-inches, while the whole TV is little more than 4mm in thickness. LG says the TV heralds “the future of TV technology” and, through incorporating the company's 4-Colour Pixels technology – using a set of four colours, rather than the standard RGB setup - and Colour Refiner with its advanced OLED panels, generates the “most natural colours of any TV set at a much lower price point than could have been achieved using the standard manufacturing process.” Furthermore, the OLED TV is said to be 1000 times faster than other LED/LCD displays, resulting in “crystal clear motion without any blurring or bleeding”.

Baring in mind that the previous iterations of OLED TVs have come in at around the 15-inch mark at a low-low starting price of £1,500 (sarcasm), this is a decisively big step up; but we fear the cost of such a machine.

CES 2012 promises to showcase some of the most impressive technology and set to be the stage at where the industry's most closely-guarded secrets are revealed – reports of the next-generation Xbox being unveiled come January 10 is still a possibility. 9 days to go...
