13" Macbook Pro With Retina Display Announced

Phil Schiller has taken to the stage at the California Theatre and announced an upgraded 13-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display.

Hardware closely follows the 15" counterpart: a thin profile at .75" (20% thinner than previous), and a lighter body (at the sacrifice of a disk drive) at 3.5 pounds.  Two thunderbolt ports, Magsafe 2 connector (old magsafe cables won't work), SD card slot, HDMI, USB 3.0 and of course the Retina display.

At 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, that's 4x higher than the previous generation, along with 29% higher contrast ratio and 75% reduced glare.  Options can get you up to 768GB of flash, 8GB of RAM, Duo Core i5 or i7 Ivy Bridge chips, 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4. HD 4000 graphics.  Pricing starts from $1,699 (round about 1050GBP) for the entry model and $1,999 (1250GBP) for the top of the range.
