Damson Twist Bluetooth Speaker Hands On At Gadget Show Live Christmas
We've seen many speakers that utilise the concept of resonating through a surface to emit sound over this last year. So much so, that we fear it may become nothing more than a party trick: the one 'sexy' moment of a gadget, which seen and used once when received as a gift. The one fear, after seeing this influx, is this technology going the way of the 'iPod' into 'Christmas stocking-filler' territory. As it's quite an innovative space.

Upon the first time you hole the Twist, you immediately recognise the weight and premium quality of the metals used to build it. People with high build quality standards will be satisfied, and a better portability than the WOWee One, at 56 x 74mm. A intuitive interface, conveniently surrounding the product name and idea of 'Twist,' makes for an easy wired (or wireless) connection to your music.
But what about the sound? Speakers in this space have been rather hit-and-miss, either offering overpowering bass or highs that kill audio quality. As you would expect, it very much depends on the surface you use. The more hollow the surface, the better the resonance. On the acoustic guitar at the show, it sounded fantastic; but didn't match that same clarity on the product box or table.
Material densities, space for soundwaves to travel, it all factors into the sound quality. But this is not a knock on the Twist, as it delivers an admirably balanced output through some innovative technology. Called 'Incisor Diffusion Technology,' this was originally developed by the US Navy, and uses a resonator plate on the bottom of the device to deliver sound through the surface. It makes for a good sense of discovery, as you'll have to experiment, and see what surfaces deliver the best sound.
Add bluetooth connectivity, audio-in & out to allow for daisy-chaining, charging over Micro USB, a battery life of 4 hours wireless playback and 9 hours wired, and you have a formidable product in the portable audio space. At £79.99, the price may discourage some people looking for a bluetooth speaker; but the value is found through audio quality, which this is a clear step ahead of many within the marketplace.
