Japanese Create 13-Foot Armed Mech, Controlled By Smartphone
Japanese engineers from Suidobashi Heavy Industries have built a 13-foot-tall, 4.4-tonne mech called 'Kuratas,' which is controllable via iPhone and fires gattling guns when you smile. The company plans to take it into mass production, selling it for the price of $1.35 million (about £860,530).
Simply put, It is possibly one of the most glorious creations we have (and probably you have) ever seen. In an age where engineers keep a keen focus on small innovations to help with your day-to-day life, such as the likes of building robots that help you find lost things or inventing a borrower-sized companion that sits on your shoulder, it's downright amazing to be greeted by something that closely resembles the robotic 'bringers of destruction' that we read about/watched/played with/dreamt about as kids.
This diesel-powered mech has been designed by the two-man team of artist Kogoro Kurata and robotics researcher Wataru Yoshizaki. It has over 30 hydraulic joints for free movement of limbs, the capability to fire bottle rockets and fireworks, and a set of 6,000 round-per-minute BB gattling guns with auto lock-on that are controlled by the pilot's smile. You can get it in 16 various colours (including pink) and at this point it moves around on four wheels, travelling at 7mph; but the engineers wish to get it walking, so it can traverse any terrain.
