World's Largest Game Of Pong Played On The Side Of A Skyscraper

Frank Lee, a professor at Drexel University's Westphal College of Media and Design, used the side of a 29 story skyscraper in Philadelphia to play the world's largest game of Pong.

Using the Cira Centre, which looks over the city's 30th Street Station downtown, Lee and colleagues Gaylord Holder, Marc Barrowclift and Santiago Ontanon wrote a piece of software that manipulated 1500 LEDs on the side of the building to render the game.

A skyscraper-sized Pong tournament kicked off Philadelphia Tech Week, where contestants played from the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, situated half a mile away (yes, the famous stairs from Rocky).

“This is something I’ve been envisioning for quite a while,” Lee said. “Not only is this something that’s just fun for anyone who’s ever played a video game, but it’s also a uniquely interactive art installation. One of the main goals of this event is to inspire wonder and creativity in anyone who sees it, especially kids.”
