German Researchers Build Robotic Ape. Skynet Meets Planet Of The Apes

Researchers at the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence have built an "ape-like robotic system" that moves just like our closest living ancestors.

Beyond giving nightmares of a Robot apocalypse paired with the Planet of The Apes, this is an impressive machine-recreation of the animal.  Three years in the making, 'iStruct' has been developing "biologically inspired" robotics, improving their mobility.

This has been made possible through various innovations, including use of a single-element artificial spine and many more miniaturised sensors woven into the fabric of the materials used to allow greater freedom of movement.  Worth a try, just to find out what would have happened if our rate of evolution took a different turn!
