Meet SPUD - An Insane 24-Inch Portable Display That Opens Like An Umbrella

A second display for your laptop or phone is an amazingly useful addition but is pretty much a stationary gadget - except for the most dedicated of you who would lug around a display in their backpacks (and power to you).

So what’s the solution? Well, I think I’ve found it on Kickstarter… Named the SPUD (Spontaneous Pop-Up Display), it’s a collapsible projector/screen combo that opens up like an umbrella.

Opening up from looking like a deflated airbed: the size of which is equivalent to a big hardback encyclopaedia and weighs just under two pounds.

The projector sits in the back, throwing whatever image on the screen that comes from either the USB and HDMI ports or via streaming services like Chromecast.

In terms of battery life, it can last at full brightness for up to three hours, which is all fair and good. But now, for the tough pill to swallow - the price is a rather steep $374. I get this is reasonable when you look at other portable projectors on the market, but that puts it out the hands of many consumers.

Let’s see how it goes, though. Really cool nonetheless!
