2018 Is Looking Good For New Rising Media

First of all, happy new year! Congratulations on making it through the 8760 hours that made up 2017, and I hope this year is truly great. For me. For you. For all of us.

So what happens now? Well, during my break to celebrate the festive times with friends & family (hope you took time away from your digital lives too), the clarity of disconnection allowed me the brain space to plan and come back stronger than ever.

Allow me to break down what’s going to happen.

An update on the UK Blog Awards…

Firstly, I’d like to take a few minutes to thank each and every single one of you who took the time to vote for New Rising Media in these prestigious awards. Your support has been recognised, as the site has been shortlisted as a finalist!

A blog is coming real soon thanking each and every one of you by name, and I will keep you posted on developments leading up to the big day in April. In the meantime, here's my mum reacting to the good news.

A regular TV spot

You may have seen me on Notts TV, talking about what exactly a “future human” is. I loved my chance to get good and geeky in an interview like this, and it seems they loved me too as I’m going back on the show as a regular contributor!

Tweet me if you have any specific topics you’d like me to cover.

Learn Something…

During Summer of 2017, I started experimenting with the new podcasting service Anchor - indulging my love for weird and wonderful facts that bamboozle the brain in a show I call “Learn Something…”

Life got in the way of me pursuing this at the same daily episodic speed I hoped for, then many-a-situation stopped it altogether.

But its 2018, and I want to get back into it. Especially after finding out it is a top 100 ranking podcast on Anchor (thank you to everyone who takes the time to listen)! Expect a new episode every Thursday.

Unnamed Twitch Experiment

The PlayStation 2 made a huge impact on the video game industry and popular culture as a whole. Plus, it’s my personal favourite console - where many many hours of my adolescent life were spent.

Through the medium of Twitch, I plan to celebrate this console - grabbing many old games from my parent’s loft and having a grand old time playing them along with providing a live channel to talk to each and every single one of you.

I don’t have a name for it yet, but expect to see the first of this exciting new experiment in February.

Patreon

While I started this blog as a chance to build a lovely little portfolio of work for the pursuit of a job in technology journalism, it’s quickly become a passion project that I’d love to work on full-time.

To do that and stay independent, I need a Patreon and I’m currently working hard to set up some sweet perks to those who donate. More news on this soon…

Summing up

2017 has been an incredible year of progress for New Rising Media - from finding the future of technology at CES and securing a regular spot on TV, to an unprecedented level of growth in social fanbase that overtook Gizmodo UK, launching a successful podcast and a spot in the UK Blog Awards Shortlist.

In 2018, the lifestyle blog for the future human continues its quest to see what the future holds through new technological developments and scientific breakthroughs, but with a new layer of geek culture.

We will celebrate the past achievements that continue to paint the vast tapestry of the future human. We dine in the delicacy of strange facts that make you the cool kid at any dinner party. Simply put, we soldier on. Thank you to the over 5.9 million readers who took a few minutes out of their lives to read/watch/listen to what I create.
