Following frenzied speculation, rumour and everything in-between; a whole host of alleged 'leaks'; and a manufacturing hiccup that threatened to take the shine off the worldwide launch, the S3 has now lifted the crown from the iPhone 4S in claiming to be the UK's most popular smartphone. But does the S3 really merit the year-long wait from its 20 million-selling predecessor, the S2, and just how worthy is it in toppling the might of Apple's iPhone?

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S3 might well mean we now have our hands on what the Korean company behind it label as the best smartphone currently at market, but that doesn’t mean for one second the iPhone 5 rumour mill doesn’t also get us all hot under the collar. The next-generation iPhone is still the phone of the year and, judging by these images publicised by website 9 To 5 Mac of what they believe to be the new white and black versions of the handset, it’s going to be one hell of a looker.

Love And Hate Of The Samsung Galaxy S3

So the Samsung Galaxy S3 announcement has come and gone in a daze of applause, orchestral accompaniment and Suzi Perry.  Many of the rumours and speculation we collected were correct, the stage was set for the 'biggest smartphone announcement of the year,' and we got a phone which is primed to be a rather huge success in the high-end Android device market.

But some of us aren't buying into this new 'nature' visage, seeing the new Galaxy, its design cues and software implementations as quite the disappointment.  Is this the final, rather laughable nail in the coffin of originality?  Or is this to be the best smartphone of the year?  Two editors debate.
